Countdown to the Australian Tourism Directions Conference
It’s just six weeks until the annual Australian Tourism Directions Conference in Canberra on 1 November and registrations for the one day event are still open. All keynote speakers have now been finalised, with Minister for Resources Energy & Tourism, the Hon. Martin Ferguson AM MP heading up a prominent list of industry experts and federal government figures. These include Bank of America Merrill Lynch Chief Economist, Saul Eslake, Asian travel industry expert Siew Hoon Yeow and tourism industry leaders across all six afternoon workshop sessions. South Korea
Promoting Australia to South Korean travellers
South Korea will discover why There’s nothing like Australia as the latest phase of Tourism Australia’s global campaign rolls out this week across television, digital and outdoor media. The campaign promotes Australia’s world’s best tourism experiences to a nation which delivered 200,000 visitors to Australian shores in the 12 months to July 2012. The Minister for Tourism, the Hon Martin Ferguson AM MP, said the campaign’s latest focus on Australia’s best products and experiences will help maintain Australia’s share of travellers from this important market. Next phase of campaign rolls out in UK
Tourism Australia and partner Qantas have launched the next phase of the There’s nothing like Australia campaign in the UK, Australian tourism’s second largest international market. The campaign, successfully launched in June for the global market, targets affluent, long-haul travellers aged 50-69 with the message that Australia is a premium, unique and achievable holiday destination. The UK marketing phase runs until the end of October and features a 30 second TV advertisement supported by online, mobile and print elements.

Tourism Australia campaign awarded ‘Australia’s favourite TV ad’
The commercial that is the current centrepiece of Tourism Australia’s global There’s nothing like Australia campaign was voted ‘Australia’s Favourite Ad’ at the prestigious 2012 Mumbrella Awards in Sydney on 13 September. The ad and associated digital creative features panoramic footage of many of Australia’s best attractions and natural experiences with the song ‘It's like Love’ as the soundtrack. Tourism Australia Managing Director Andrew McEvoy said this latest accolade endorsed the commercial’s appeal with both consumers and industry experts. Find out more.

Australia exhibits at CIBTM in Beijing
Australia was on the show at the China Incentive, Business Travel & Meetings Exhibition (CIBTM) in Beijing from 12 to 14 September. Joining Business Events Australia for the three-day event was Australia Travel, Business Events Cairns & Great Barrier Reef, Crown Hotels, Gold Coast Convention Bureau and Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre. The partners reported some strong leads, saying Australia is a leading choice for buyers from China’s fast-growing business events market.  Business Events Australia also launched new Chinese language versions of its website at the show.

Bid applications open for Corroboree North America 2013
Tourism Australia has released the bid document to state and tourism organisations to host Corroboree 2013 for the North America market. This gives regions and products the opportunity to submit their proposals to host ‘Aussie Specialist’ travel agents as part of the event. VIP famil to entice cruise operators to Australia
Senior cruise company executives arrive in Sydney this week to see Australia’s top quality port facilities, shore excursion products and pre and post touring opportunities first-hand. Delegates will be welcomed by Minister, the Hon. Martin Ferguson at a special function at Sydney’s Park Hyatt on September 23, before embarking on the week-long famil around the country. Tourism Australia Managing Director Andrew McEvoy said the VIP famil was part of a concerted effort to secure a greater share of the international cruise market for Australian inbound tourism. Some of the world's leading players in ecotourism will gather for Australia’s Global Eco Asia-Pacific Tourism Conference in Cairns from 15 to 17 October 2012. The line-up features sixty speakers from organisations such as G Adventures, Virgin Australia, World Expeditions and Tourism Australia, as well as international government tourism representatives. Award to recognise rising stars of regional tourism
Six young people are contenders for the Australian Regional Tourism Network’s (ARTN) Young Regional Tourism Professionals Award. The winner will be announced on day four of the ARTN’s annual convention, held this year in Launceston from 22 to 26 October. “The future of tourism in Australia rests firmly in the hands of the young professionals who are currently learning, training and developing their skills to lead the industry forward in the decades ahead,” said ARTN Chair, Therese Phillips.  To register for the ARTN convention, visit the website or email the Executive Officer.

AAA congratulates award winners
Tourism properties and people in 46 categories across Australasia were recognised in the Accommodation Association of Australia’s 10th annual HM Awards on 7 September. Hilton Surfers Paradise was named best New Hotel and the Hilton chain also won for Hotel Bar (Zeta at Hilton Sydney). NSW Association members Fraser Suites Sydney, Scone Motor Inn and Sebel Pier One in Sydney picked up awards for Serviced Apartment Property, Economy Property and Upscale Property respectively.

Aviation into Australia continues to grow, with the latest international capacity figures indicating a 4.3 per cent rise in air seats in June 2012.
