'There’s Nothing Like Australia' launches in the UK

piano on beachAustralia’s new global tourism campaign launches in the UK this week hitting cinema screens across the country. The 90 second video will be seen in cinemas from 18 June and supported by online advertising on major search engines such as Yahoo! and MSN and travel portals including Trip Advisor. The campaign will be seen by more than 2.7 million cinema goers and 13 million will be exposed to the online activity, inspiring them to visit Australia on holiday. This is the first time the new campaign will be used outside of Australia.

Online game success in Singapore
A six week Great Australian Journeys promotion has just concluded in Singapore. The Tourism Australia campaign aims to strengthen Australia’s position as the premier self-drive destination for Singaporeans through an interactive competition encouraging consumers to explore 17 key self drive routes developed with the State Tourism Offices and Lonely Planet. Supported by a retail cooperative campaign promoting self drive packages developed by Chan Brothers Travel, the six week competition saw more than 49,000 unique visitors to www.australianroadtrips.com.

New flight site for Korean travellers
To promote the vast range of flight options available for Korean visitors to Australia, Tourism Australia has created a new site www.flight.australia.com. The site, which links from Australia.com, provides users with detailed flight information to Australia. To drive traffic to the site users can also take part in a competition to win a trip Downunder. Coinciding with the online promotion, Hyundai Card holders in Korea can purchase tickets to Australia with six months interest free and get double mileage on money spent in Australia for trips taken between June and August.

Save the date – Australian Tourism Directions Conference
Tourism Australia and the Department of Resources, Energy and Tourism are pleased to announce the inaugural Australian Tourism Directions conference, designed to provide the latest insights on tourism development and tourism megatrends. Australian Tourism Directions, a product of the National Long Term Tourism Strategy will report on the current state of the industry, future directions for growth, will highlight key areas of government policy and the latest research. The launch event will be held in Canberra on 16 November 2010 and for more details stay tuned to essentials.

National Visitor Survey released today
Figures from the Australian Government’s National Visitor Survey released today show Australia’s Domestic tourism market is holding strong for both the March quarter and the year ending March 2010 despite challenges from a competitive international market. Business Events Cooperative Trade Marketing Prospectus released
The 2010/11 Business Events Australia trade marketing prospectus was released on 11 June, outlining cooperative opportunities for the business events industry to be involved in Tourism Australia’s Australian and in-market activities during the 2010/11 financial year. Are you part of a small community in NSW?
The NSW State Budget for 2010-11 included $90,000 for small communities in rural and remote NSW to supplement or establish an internet website promoting their town and tourism attractions. Grants are provided to community based organisations involved in local community promotion that demonstrate a clear community benefit in their application. Funds of $5,000 are available per community for eligible projects that demonstrate community in-kind contributions and who have not received similar funding in the past.
