'There’s nothing like Australia' launched in Japan

There's nothing like Australia screenshotTourism Australia announced the Japanese rollout of the ‘There’s nothing like Australia’ campaign to media and key trade partners in Japan today. Managing Director Andrew McEvoy welcomed Japanese celebrities actor Toshio Shiba, actress Misako Yasuda and fashion model Noriko Maeda, all of whom are well-known fans of Australia. The celebrities recounted their own Australian experiences and travel recommendations to the media. From 15 September 2010 3,500 entries, chosen from the 29,000 Australian campaign entries and translated into Japanese, will be featured online at www.nothinglikeaustralia.com/jp. Japanese travellers will be invited to vote for their favourite entry over eight weeks. Japanese tourists who have previously visited Australia will also be invited to upload their ‘Nothing like Australia’ photograph and experience for the chance to win a trip Downunder.

Approved Destination Status Scheme Applications Open for 2010
Inbound tour operators are being invited to become approved suppliers for groups of Chinese leisure travellers. An Information Package can be downloaded from 22 July and applications should be submitted at www.ret.gov.au/tourism_ads. For further information on the scheme call 1800 048 155 or email ads@ret.gov.au.

Applications for the World Travel Market (WTM) have opened. The event will be held in London from 8 to 11 November 2010. WTM is established as the world's leading travel exhibition and is a must attend, business to business exhibition. The event provides a unique opportunity for the whole global travel trade industry to meet, network, negotiate and conduct business. Applications close Thursday 29 July 2010.

Applications closing South East Asia Mission
Applications for the South East Asia Mission (SEAM) close on Thursday 22 July 2010. The event will be held in Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon), Vietnam from 20 to 22 September 2010. SEAM provides a superb opportunity for representatives from the Australian tourism industry to develop and establish business relationships with product planners and decision makers from key markets of South East Asia, including Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam and the Philippines.

Follow the sun north in winter
Tourism Australia has worked with China Airlines to run a tactical promotion offering a wide range of products featured in 26 different itineraries covering both Cairns and combined-state packages. The campaign, which promoted the appeal of warm Queensland weather and a short flying time (less than seven hours), resulted in four charter flights direct to Cairns from Taiwan.

Australian Tourism Directions Conference
Tourism Australia and the Department of Resources, Energy and Tourism are pleased to announce the inaugural Australian Tourism Directions conference, designed to provide the latest insights on tourism development and tourism megatrends.

The Australian Tourism Directions conference will report on the current state of the industry, future directions for growth and will also highlight the latest research.
